Time zones, simply

A time zone is a region that keeps the same clock time. Offsets are measured from UTC: India is UTC+5:30 all year, while New York is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer. Converting correctly means using the rules in force on that specific date, which is what this tool does.

For recurring schedules (a daily 9:00 job, a weekly meeting) the same care applies. See the cron builders, which show your schedule in any time zone and warn about daylight-saving gaps, or the local time to UTC cron converter. To find hours that work for several countries use the meeting planner.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert IST to PST or EST?

Pick the date and time, choose India (IST) as the source and US Pacific or US Eastern as the target. The result handles daylight saving, so the gap changes between 12.5 and 13.5 hours across the year.

Why does the offset change during the year?

Many zones (the US, Europe, Australia) shift their clocks for daylight saving. India and most of Asia do not. This converter uses the real rules for the exact date you enter.

What if my time does not exist?

On the spring-forward night one hour is skipped, so a time like 02:30 in New York never happens. The tool tells you and uses the next valid moment.

Is the data up to date?

It uses your browser's built-in time zone database (IANA), which is updated with browser releases.
