Why conversion is not copy and paste
- Unix and Kubernetes number Sunday as 0 (or 7). Quartz and EventBridge number Sunday as 1.
- Quartz and Spring have a leading seconds field. Add
0in front when moving from crontab. - Quartz and EventBridge require
?in one of the two day fields, and EventBridge also requires a year. - Unix cron fires when day-of-month or day-of-week matches. Quartz, Spring and EventBridge require both.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I just paste a crontab line into Quartz?
Quartz has a leading seconds field, numbers Sunday as 1, and needs a ? in one of the two day fields. A pasted five-field line is rejected, or worse, runs on the wrong day.
What happens to features the other system does not have?
The converter refuses and tells you why, for example last-day-of-month (L) has no equivalent in Unix cron. It never silently emits an expression that means something else.
Does the converter check its own work?
Yes. It compares the next run times of the input and the output and tells you if they differ.
