Naming conventions across a stack
One field often has three names: user_account_id in the database, userAccountId in Java and JSON, and user-account-id in a URL or config key. Converting by hand is slow and error-prone, especially with acronyms.
Splitting works on camelCase boundaries, underscores, hyphens, dots and spaces, so you can paste an identifier in any style.
Frequently asked questions
Which case does Java use?
Classes are PascalCase, methods and variables are camelCase, constants are CONSTANT_CASE, and packages are lowercase. Spring properties usually use kebab-case.
What about snake_case?
Common for database columns, Python, and JSON from many APIs. Convert it to camelCase for Java fields, then use @JsonProperty or a naming strategy to map back.
How are acronyms handled?
A run of capitals such as XMLHttpRequest is split sensibly into XML, Http and Request, then re-cased to xmlHttpRequest in camelCase.
Does it keep my punctuation?
The identifier styles drop punctuation and join words. UPPERCASE and lowercase keep your text exactly as typed.
